About Hoshi:

There are the Three Holy Mountains of Japan which are revered by tradition in Japan. Hoshi's 1300-year history began along with one of the Three Holy Mountains, Mount Haku.

The tale began in AD717, when the god of Mount Haku visited Buddhist monk Taicho Daishi in a dream and told him where to find a hot spring. Next year, Daishi discovered the spot in nearby village Awazu - today's Ishikawa prefecture - and ordered his pupil Garyo Hoshi to build a guest house - Japanese call it a ryokan.

Garyo Hoshi adopted a son who took his childhood name Zengoro and took over the business after his death. Since then, for nearly 1,300 years, the hotel and the name - Zengoro Hoshi - have been passed down the family for 46 generations.

One day, one of our guest was walking in the garden covered with moss and said, "This place is like an old shrine deep in the mountains."

Our garden was loved by Enshu Kobori, the master of the tea ceremony about 400 years ago. While viewing the garden, please have a relaxed time in our unique guest rooms.

A castanopsis has endured heavy snow and strong winds in the Northern regions. Japanese Red Pine trees are like a serious samurai, yet has a warm atmosphere. Japanese cedar trees look as if they stick to one's beliefs no matter what and only look forward. When you look at those old trees, you feel as though those trees teach us life lessons.

In addition to that, Japanese gardener Master, Toemon Sano makes the garden more attractive.
